Sam Mell, Untitled (Installation Fragment #4)

$600.00

Sam Mell is a San Francisco-based visual artist interested in pattern as a visual language. Using disparate materials like string, felt markers and masking tape, Mell creates intricate patterns by hand using arduous, repetitive processes. The imperfections, however subtle, often show distortions that reveal the human hand in making them.

In the exhibition "" Making Space" at City Limits, Mell created a wall mural out of archival tape, fastening several few sheets of paper to the wall underneath the tape. The installation, created by projecting a small scribbled drawing onto the wall, was then "filled in" with areas of color using a unique, repetitive pattern. The installation was completed when the underlying paper was cut from the wall, creating 4 smaller compositions.
